Following activities have been undertaken during the last quarter under this project.

Capacity Building of Youth
The project is designed to introduce, stimulate, cultivate and educate marginalized young people with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to become leaders of character, vision and action in their communities. The goal of the project is to give youth the opportunity and responsibility to contribute to community strengths. A true feeling of empowerment and connection accompanies this community involvement for youth. This project has built the capacity of 3200 youth through participatory planing, workshop, technical skills such as organizing groups to from NGOs/CBOs. These activities improved their knowledge and also reconnected them with their communities for sustainable development.

Orientation Sessions on RH & Gender Sensitization.
110 Orientation sessions on RH & Gender Sensitization were held for the awareness of 3000 in-school and out-of-school youth. These orientation sessions helped the youth to cross cultural barriers and have better understanding of SRH and gender-related issues. Other significant aims of these sessions were to explore and clarify myths and misconceptions regarding Adolescent Health.
Meeting Cum Orientation sessions with Nikah Registrars.
Young newly weds are motivated to promote the small family norm at the time of marriage by enrolling Nikah Registrars and Ulemas. After receiving orientation and training in population and reproductive health issues, these religious officials distribute gifts (Wall Clocks) and information on FP and RH to couples after the wedding ceremony. 40 meeting-cum-orientation sessions were held with Nikah Registrar in all the Regions in order to strengthen and chalk out future strategies for the implementation of Nikah Registrar project

Self Employment Scheme
As unemployment among youth is a widespread phenomenon in Pakistan, the younger generation ready to enter the labour market faces the stark reality of joblessness, which breeds frustration and inertia and can lead to social evils like drug addiction and crime. Under the FPAP’s Youth Programme, therefore, a revolving loan facility was instituted in 1993-1998. During the reporting period follow-up meetings were held with the loanees of self-employment scheme in order to observe and monitor their activities, as these business units also work as CBD agents.

Tree Plantation:

During the tree-planting season, youth groups were involved in the planting campaign and saplings/ plants were planted throughout the country. Orientation sessions/ meetings were also held with young members of different NGOs to raise awareness about environmental degradation.

Matches/ Films:

FPAP has employed direct and indirect approaches to communicate its message to the new generation. Apart from all the formal means of counselling some informal channels have been installed to conscientize youth. Sports matches are one of them. Twelve Sports matches were held under the banner of FPAP. At the prize distribution ceremony FPAP staff addressed the audience and highlighted the issue of rapid growth of population and health.

Declamation Contests:

Thirteen declamation contests were held at Regional level for school and college students. The top three position holders were awarded prizes by FPAP. On this occasion, FPAP youth staff addressed the audience and highlighted the problems of our population, environmental degradation and health. IEC material on youth, population and environment were also distributed among participants
Medical Camps:

Fourteen medical camps were held in isolated, rural areas, which have no health facilities or very crude provisions. FPAP provided transport, doctors and basic medicine while NGOs made the logistical arrangements. The dearth of available medical care draws large droves thronging around these camps which creates a favourable impression of FPAP on the local population.
