BEATZ TO DA STREETZ
who are we?
A youth-led arts program that aims to provide a safe and supportive space for youth ages 16-24. The program leverages the powerful connection between young people and music to promote opportunities for creative expression and self-discovery, building life skills opening access to professional mentorship, education and income generation for homeless and street-involved youth ages 16-24. The program reintegrates youth with their communities and gives supports for achieving long-term livelihood development.
what do we do?
Beatz to da Streetz aims to engage and empower youth to actively participate in finding solutions to the challenges they face, equipping them with the supports and skills they need to make positive changes in their own lives and in their communities.
beatz to da streetz workshops
B2DS offers two free 15-week workshops each year for 15-20 youth (in each session) in partnership with Touchstone Youth Centre, and Centennial College’s Centre for Creative Communications. The workshops are led by music professionals and include topics like urban music and culture, hip hop literacy, writing lyrics, recording music, production, promotion and the music industry. The participants work collaboratively with their peers to record original tracks of music. As a final project the participants of the program promote, produce and perform in a live showcase of talent.

- Builds important social networks for marginalized and isolated youth
- Connects youth to community events and forums so that they have a voice in solutions to the problems they face
- Connects musically-talented youth to opportunities for income generation through live performances, and as staff with the program
- Supports youth in making positive changes in their lives like transitioning out of the shelter system, exiting criminal activity, returning to school and finding employment
