Youth Action – HIV And AIDS Network is a Pune-based, youth driven and action oriented network on HIV and AIDS. It is a ‘one-stop’ place for everything that young people in Pune need to fight HIV and AIDS at all levels.
YAHAAN is not another NGO, nor an umbrella group. YAHAAN is simply a network linking young people to agencies working in the HIV/AIDS field.
Background:
HIV and AIDS is a problem among the Indian Youth. In 2005, it is estimated that 7 young people got infected with HIV every hour!
Young people can be equal partners in the fight against HIV and AIDS!
Youth have been and can be agents of change in society. Yes, YOUth CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! But there are challenges to meaningful involvement of young people:
•Lack of appropriate knowledge and means to make informed decisions about their own sexual and reproductive health
•Unaware of the magnitude of the HIV epidemic and its ramifications; cannot identify with the issue meaning many young people are not sufficiently motivated to act
•Lack of developed skills to help make a difference
•Few opportunities for young people to participate in the fight against HIV and AIDS; even where they exist, young people may not be aware
YAHAAN strives to overcome these challenges.
Objectives:
YAHAAN follows a two-pronged approach.
First, increase knowledge of young people about HIV and AIDS.
Second, empower young people with skills to help them join the fight against HIV and AIDS
