Kabete Youth Club In An Appeal-Young people in Kenya are invited to participate
in creative writings and workshops on the theme, "language as violence, ...violence as language" and on different skills: digital photography, using diverse software, and online tools. Participants are invited to take pictures in their local community of relevance to the theme. The images will then be uploaded online to the Global Gallery that exhibits all the submissions from the participating cities. Furthermore they will become part of a creative video and some of the magazine supported by UNESCO. All connected components in one unique interactive umbrella web-page. The entire project will be presented at the UNESCO Youth Forum 2005. This is a reminder to all members from Kenya who have not joined the project to do something because we are already behind schedule. KENYA YOUTH AND ICT CONVENTION
During the International youth day and Harambee youth week here in Kenya on the 12th and 13th August, the project coordinator got an invitation to attend the session which was important especially in giving Kenyan ICT policy some leeway. The language as violence got the platform to champion itself and great expectations were received from the conference participants, some who were only hearing about Takingitglobal for the first time. Lots of appreciation to Made in Kenya for the platform!

Talented Kimani to receive further training in Austria
Story by LARRY NGALA ,The Daily nation
Publication Date: 08/17/2005

Ali Kimani, one of Kenya's most talented young golfers, has left for Salzburg, Austria. Kimani, who comes from a less privileged background, has been invited for a four-month training programme in the Austrian city that will see him through to a European Tour Qualifying School in November. This is the second time Kimani, a golfer in the caddie ranks under Muthaiga professional Charles Farrar, has travelled to Austria. Kimani and the then Kenya Amateur champion Kopan Timbe, now a professional, were early this year invited by Albert Pleminger and People Sports Management for two week trials in Austria. The management company then settled on Ali for further training because of his youthful age, being under 25. "I believe I can make it, particularly with the coaching assistance I am likely to receive before the Qualifying School," said Kimani. Through the support of some Vet Lab Sports Club members, Kimani became a member of the club early this year. Born in Nairobi on May 6, 1983, Kimani started his golfing career through the junior programme in 1993. He won a number of events in the Junior Golf Foundation events in the non-handicap category in 1996. However, in 1998 he was given handicap 14, which he brought down to the single digit bracket in 2002.Since he was clubless and keen to play the game, Kimani decided to join the caddie ranks, where he won a number of tournaments. He joined professional Charles Farrar's stable early last year. His major breakthrough came in July when he clinched the Kenya Golf Union Golfer Of The Year's Coronation trophy in Nakuru. Farrar says Kimani can scale the heights on the international golf scene and become a source of inspiration to other talented golfers in the country. Apart from training, Kimani will also play a number of trial events from next Wednesday in Salzburg where he will be based until the end of November. He will be making his first attempt in the Tour School next month in Germany, though he is scheduled to play a number of trial events before then.
