Hi all,

I've created a new TIG Group called TIG in the Classroom--it's where most of the activity relating to TIG & Education will be occuring for the next little while. Basically, it's an easier forum for us to have a discussion--it operates as a mailing list rather than simply a webspace like this (but all the conversations and documents are archived on the TIG site). You can opt to have messages sent individually or in a 'digest' format--or to simply check the site for updates.

What we want to focus on in this group are: ideas on using TIG in the classroom; feedback on the TIGed site; new features; other excellent educational resources and programs; and ideas for incorporating global issues, etc. into a variety of subjects and grade levels. We're also starting a better organised repository of classroom activities.

If you want to check out the group, go to http://www.tiggroups.org/tigintheclass , or to subscribe, send an email to TIGintheClass-subscribe@groups.takingitglobal.org

Thanks,

Luke

Hey everyone! Just to let you know what's going on: we are working on a new site, www.tiged.org. It'll be up and running in the next little while. Be sure to check it out. I'm also working on a guide to TIG and TIGed for teachers, so if you have any suggestions, let me know!

Hey Everyone!

It has been a very busy month. Teachers.TakingITGlobal is launched, along with an initial set of activities. Any suggestions to the site can be posted on the message board. Mike will be amalgamating the TIGed message board with our project page one soon.

The ECOO conference is this Thursday and Friday and everyone is prepping up! I am very excited to meet Frank, and Vasuki, two local teachers who have been involving TIG in their classrooms. I am especially excited to see Vasuki’s equity assignments. I have been seeing her students work posted on the site and I am very impressed by the issues that they are bring up; domestic violence, racism, sexism, classism, etc. Tomorrow myself, Jen, Amy, and maybe Zeesy, will be going to Macklin to see a preview screening of 8M’s films. I am working very hard on getting the TIQ Quest! Activities done for Thursday night so that we can upload them to teachers.TakingITGlobal.org. I had a big meeting with Jen and Mike yesterday where we brainstormed about the future of TIGed. Some ideas that came up:

-creating a web template for classrooms to showcase the work they are doing with the site -creating a classroom pen pal system so that different classrooms around the world can collaborate on projects and engage in cultural sharing
-creating a teachers portal where teachers can upload activities and share different pedagogy philosophies

If you have any ideas of what TIGed could be please post them on the message board. I will post the rough copies of the different TIG Quest!s as I create them and I would appreciate any feedback.
