Description:
The World Congress of Youth (www.wcyworld.org) is a international youth-led non-profit organization, based in Montreal, committed to youth empowerment in becoming active and informed participants at the community, state, national and international levels. It was established in 1999 and has international chapters worldwide. Its mission statement: ‘We, the youth of the world, in the interest of promoting and protecting the welfare of fellow youth throughout the world, hereby reaffirm our commitment to serve, to represent, and to lead youth in the new millennium. Our goal is to strengthen the educational, cultural, environmental, political and social conditions of youth and to be the spirit of the international youth movement.’

The World Congress of Youth- Sri Lanka is a non-profit and non-political organization. We support the World Congress of Youth international movement and share its goals and mission statement, and are supported by WCY headquarters and chapters worldwide. As an autonomous and independent chapter led by our Executive Committee, our operations focus on Singapore and its specific youth-related issues to achieve our aims and objectives.



Objectives:
1. To foster dialogue between the different ethnic groups in Sri Lanka to promote understanding, peace and collaboration among the youth.
2.To educate youth in dealing with present youth problems like Unemployment, mental stress,smoking,alcohol, drugs and sexual harassment and to widen their knowledge of values of Life, Love and Unity.
3. To provide an example for other youth groups globally of how to start an active action orientated youth group.

Action plan of WCY- Sri Lanka

1. Open discussions for Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim youth regarding ethnic conflict, and how to get over war's hurt and anger and look out for a future together and how to narrow the gap among the races. (Through T.V. Newspaper, Radio)

2. Encourage youth to write to the newspapers expressing their ideas and about the war and the effect of it on the youth, and how to resolve youth problems.

3. Educate the youth on how to face the challenges of tomorrow by conducting lectures with the help of recognized well educated people of our country.

4. Broadcast successful youth stories and how they achieved their goals in life, and the problems they faced in coming so far, simply their experiences of life, so the other youth can learn from them.

5. Publish an educative Youth magazine/Page with articles from Tamil, Muslim and Sinhalese Youth.
