Week 3 - Question 3
October 31, 2006 @ 03:54 PM

Topic 3: Publicity for your project

After you have analyzed the success of your project, will you attempt to publicize it? Why or why not?

What are some ways you could attract media attention to your project?

I think the decision to make my project a learning resource takes out of my hand the choice to make the project public or not. As a learning resource, it is already public
Knowledge and would attract its own publicity. Yet, I would try to publicize it because it may be of help in the planning and execution of future projects

I would attract media attention to my project by inviting them to be part of the project at its inception. Hence, through first hand observation and evaluation they would surely decide to give it the publicity it deserves

After i have analysed the success of my project.Publicity is important because it is important part of learning process.Knowledge and experience are gained so this give at an advantage position to those who are to undertake future projects.
For instance ,when the project was undertaken at a great risk but it went ahead and succeeded. The other people who want to do the project in future will already know the risk and they will be able to take steps to minimise the risk and reduce any effect if problem arise.

Media can be attracted to pay attention to the project by.
-Writing press release to media houses about the success of the project and its impact on people.
Organising an activity related to the project and invite guest from different organisations including journalist to cover the invent.
Another altanative is to have an upbeat reporter who can cover up the project from the bigning up to the end

Politicizing in light of the project success is really important. Ideally NGOs work as supplants to government (though most people, both from government and development sector) consider NGOs to supplements to government or alternative to government. The basic function of any NGO should be to do advocacy and lobby with government on key issues and give government proven models which it (government) could use for better results. That's why it is really important to politicize the project successes.

This helps in not only sharing the successes but helps in authentically sharing the way forward and giving the best practical models.

For attracting media, I would like organize a conference, if project resources allow, or would simple hold a press conference or roundtable discussion with media representatives.

Well if the projects are working in education, health or soothe social subjects so I feel that it should be publicize for the awareness and to spread the massage of social mobilization.
On the other hand it depends upon the nature of the project too. I would elaborate it with an example of the projects like Safe abortion or HIV/AIDS tribal areas of Pakistan or somewhere in African. These kinds of projects may cause or affect the team member’s lives working on the project. It is supposed to be social stigma and abortion subject itself may cause of honor killing in the societies like Pakistan since this subject has never been projected and it is not realized a social problems in its true nature.

Well getting the media personnel in the project or involve them in the project is the best option for attracting them. They should be made one of the stakeholders in the project or conducting a seminar for their capacity to write on the nature of the project for social awareness.

Ofcourse, after analysing the success of the project i will publicize it.This will help to water the confidence of the people for the organisation, many people will get to know the organisation, and there is a greater probability that when next we are to carry out a project, the support of the community is guarantied. This will also encourage and attract sponsors, volunteers, donors, and stakeholders to be part of a good idea.

To attract the media is no big deal.publicity through brochures, placards, and the results and impact of the project is enough to pull the media. Also if you involve the government and other important personalities, be sure to have the media present.Moreso, you can aswell go to any media of your choice and arrange for media coverage.Let them know the objectives of your project and the impact it will have in the community. That is sufficient to pull their attention.

Why not! Definately i will try in my own way to publize the report. This create room for transperancy and most especially room for improvement in the future. I see no reason why i should keep it secret.
Here, i have got a good working relationship with the media, i am always concious of maintinmg that reationship for the efficient service delivery. If a project is well done and you have success stories, definately the media would come. Inviting big names in government to declare the occassion open or close it can be a way of attracting free media coverage.

Personally I don’t believe in striving for publicity, I want my audience to publicize it with their months, let them say it on the streets without inducing them, “seeing is believing” but I’ve discovered within the Donors world, they will like you to give it publicity and this will also enhance further support from funding agencies, with this instance I support publicity but it should not turn into a flamboyant galore. Also it has to be noted that since my project is a radio project and I’m a media personality, I already have a lot of publicity, because the media has no publicity limits.

I would want publisize the results of my project whether it was a success or not. If my project would experience failure, it is good to publisize the reasons why so that someone else will not make the same mistake. But since failure can be sorta embarrassing secretiveI would pay special attention to making sure I don't fail too much.smile

Community involvement to me is enough reason for the media to cover the project...but not everybody thinks like I do. From experience, I know that the more stakeholders involved, the better chances for media coverage. But still...that doesn't mean we should search for more stakeholders to be part of the project! Through my own experience, when famous people or government officials are invited to be guest speakers, it usually does the trick.nerdy

I will publicize my project for other individuals use it as their learning resource in the future.

Some ways to attract media attention:

- At the end of the project, organizing a meeting to summary what we have done according to the aim of the project
- Inviting a reporter to come to our training or other project activities
