Description:
Plan in Germany is organising an international youth conference on gender in February 2007 in Berlin/Germany. This conference consists of a three-day workshop and a two-day public symposium.
The objectives for the conference are a) to sensitise adolescents and to encourage them to promote gender issues and b) to give them a platform to express their opinions, their needs and their demands for realising gender equity.
Plan is going to invite 32 youth from all over the world. They are all representatives of different youth-initiatives in their home country.
A planing-team of young people supports Plan in the preparation of the conference.
Through the possibilities of “Taking it Global” all the participants can exchange information and opinions on the conference.
Background:
Founded nearly 70 years ago, Plan is one of the largest child-centred community development organisations in the world. Plan works in 62 countries on projects and initiatives that address the causes of poverty and its consequences for children’s lives.
At local level, Plan works directly with all groups in a community to identify the priority issues affecting children. Plan actively encourages children to analyse their own situation and raise their awareness on the fundamental rights to which they are entitled.
Plan campaigns for children to achieve their rights and works at national and international level to influence policy decisions.
Bringing youth together to promote children’s rights is one of the goals in the work of Plan.
