One Planet Living is the challenge of our times. Globally, we are consuming resources and polluting 30% more than the planet can sustain. Our increasing consumption means we leave less and less space for other species to flourish, and we are losing biodiversity at an alarming rate.Different countries are consuming and polluting at different rates. If everyone in the world lived as Americans do, we’d need 5 planets to support us. And if everyone lived the way Europeans do, we’d need 3 planets. Large segments of the populations of major countries such as India, China and Brazil consume natural resources at similarly high rates. Environmental group BioRegional (www.bioregional.com) are working with partners across the world to develop communities which demonstrate what 'one planet living' might look like in practice. These are all based on the holistic sustainability framework of the ten principles, developed in conjunction with WWF.
