Description:
MEZZANINE: YOUTH WRITING PEACE www.mz9.net is working towards creating an independent youth media in south Asia to document the voices of young people on peace, security, conflict & related issues in the region.

This project is the recipient of the Scholar of Peace Fellowship 2003-04 awarded by Women in Security, Conflict Management and Peace (WISCOMP), New Delhi, India.

Young south Asians are increasingly playing an integral role in conflict prevention, resolution and peace building both in their own communities and at the regional level. Yet, young people, especially women, are often conspicuous by their absence in media, policy and peace building in the region. Mezzanine aims to break this very cycle of marginalization that has largely denied Asian countries the use of youth, especially young women

Objectives:
To create an independent youth media in south Asia focusing on peace & conflict issues

To showcase youth-written material in mainstream media in the south Asia region

To administer an e-course on peace & conflict management

Needs:
Youth from the south Asia region (including Afghanistan & Tibet) and from around the world are invited to contribute opinion pieces, features, interviews, photo essays, short audio and video reports on peace, conflict, youth and related issues. Contributions which may be in English or regional languages will be showcased in the project website www.mz9.net and subsequently syndicated in regional media. All pieces submitted must display values associated with a culture of peace.
