Description:
The Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Transgendered (LGBT) Refugee Peer & Mentoring Support Meetings.
FOCUS: These meetings aim to help LGBT Refugee’s and new immigrants overcome the stress of moving to a new country. The group is led by Volunteers familiar with Canadian ways help newcomers learn about available services and how to use them, practice English, get contacts in their field of work and participate in the community. At the same time, group members learn about new cultures, other lands and different languages; they make new friends, and they strengthen community life.
REFUGEE PEER SUPPORT MEETING are held on the 4th Sunday of every month
The group meets regularly after 11 am service.

We start promptly at 12:45 and end promptly at 1:45.

Background:
There are people throughout the world who face emotional and physical harm every day because of their sexual orientation. In some countries, this harassment is overlooked and sometimes even condoned by the police and the government. Escaping persecution and claiming refugee status in Canada is a very important first step.
Objectives:
In Toronto there are a number of Refugees and Newcomers within the LGBT community who want an opportunity to get together at least once a month do exchange ideas and discuss issues. The meetings have no formal agenda and provide a confidential, safe place to connect with others.
