Description:
The project strive to ensure that the youths master IT as a source of employment. The computer training going beyond tying and email knowledge but advancing to use the knowledge to create employment for other and oneself.
Already the organization has a reource centre that is frequented by the youths so this project would be an avenue to expand the opportunities for the youth.
Background:
Barely 2 percent of the world’s population has Internet access. In more than 80 countries there are fewer than 10 telephone lines for every 100 inhabitants. Youth are the leaders in this field. If given the right support and infrastructure, they can offer many innovative approaches to promote education, health, and rural development. More alianated are youths who live in the rural areas and informal settlement/Eastlands part of th cities, where the basic rule is struggle for basic need aganist a poor enviroment.
The project is located in the poverty-striken East lands of Nairobi where access to quality and affordable IT training is impossible to find. This has left the youths in this area ignorant on how to operate even open a computer in this era of IT, for those who have been trained its time the training advanced to a new level, where there is open sessions with specialized on creative use of the computer skills. Many Youths who have been trained at the centre wait for jobs with their skills, so having more room and machine to produce other materials would expand the centre.
Objectives:
Bridge the Digital Divide among the youths in Developing nations.
Milestones:
The Project will create employment, raise awareness of IT among the community, offer linking and bonding time for youth to build projects together.
We shall use the opportunity to engage the youths in community initiatives and linkages with other agencies.
The program is run and administrated by Youth.
The centre is youth friendly and managed by the youths, The tutors are youths.
Youths in the project will be mentors to the community. The project shall offer affordable and high quality IT training for youth.
