After a bit of a hiatus for discussions with IDRC, we're now fully underway again. 6 of the 8 research partners are now confirmed, as are 4 of the 5 members of the international advisory panel. And with the amazing help of Kelly and Karen at IISD and Reema at IDRC-SARO, the logistics for the project launch workshop are well in-hand.
I have added the event to the database and the project description below for those who are interested.

It looks like things are moving ahead with the access to information side of the debate as well. According to a UNECE document from August (which I just spotted today), "The secretariat gave a brief presentation on the latest developments with regard to the
preparations for the World Summit on the Information Society (http://www.itu.int/wsis/), including proposal for a side event on the Aarhus Convention. It was expected that the event
would address the implications of using information and communication technologies to promote access to information and facilitate public participation in decision-making in environmental matters. The event would showcase examples of good practice in the use of electronic information tools to promote environmental rights and thus promote the principles of sustainable
development and effectively work to achieve the United Nations Millennium Development
Goals. The Chair welcomed the initiative and invited delegations to contribute to the side event and to contact the secretariat with ideas and proposals for the possible involvement of their
respective governments or organizations."

Those interested in this subject may want to consider attending the conference on Environmental Assessment in the Information Society to be held the week before the WSIS in Geneva.

The scoping study is now complete and posted below. We're now in the process of discussing funding for the full project with several organizations.
