Description:
Iracambi has a number of different projects that are related to our goals. We have a research centre, we are mapping the area using GIS technology, we have a medicinal plants project, an environmental education for the local area, re-forestation, trails maintenance.
Objectives:
Iracambi is committed to making the preservation of the rainforest more attractive than it's destruction. We are situated in the Mata Atlantica, an area of exceptional biodiversity that is severely threatened, and has been reduced to only 7.5% of its original extent. We are trying to come up with ways that will not only arrest this rate of destruction, but reverse it, whilst also providing a higher standard of living for the local farmers.
Needs:
We are always looking for people who can use the GIS system; Portuguese speakers prepared to use this skill for our Environmental Education programme; botanists and chemists who could get involved in our Medicinal Plants project; and we are always looking for people who can help with trails maintenance, tree planting, fundraising, marketing, i.t., admin duties, carpentry and much more.
