Dear Friends,
Welcome to a forum for discussion of the Elements of Information Ecology project. The project - many years in development - is ready to take off and to launch a vision of Information Ecology as an Enterprise Operating System for Sustainability, Justice and Peace.
Information Ecology - as it has been conceived and developed in relation to this process, namely as an emerging co-intelligent holistic life science for an Information Age - has been developed in the context of the systematic application and support for the use of information and communications technology to facilitate broad-based participation of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the series of UN-sponsored global conferences of the 1990s - beginning with preparations for the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro through the Habitat II Conference in Istanbul in June 1996.
Information Ecologyis based on a mathematical model of the the digital environment, in which the transformative power of zero in a binary digital environment is the critical element, given that information has zero mass, zero physical size and takes almost zero time to travel, enabling a remarkable liberation from the laws of conservation, energy and mass.
In its present form, Elements of Information Ecology is one of a cluster of a growing number of related projects - all on TakingITGlobal - including Elements of Light and Colour - an Open Source Curriculum; Nonviolence Resource Network; We, The World Global Resource Network; Open Source Curriculum in DataPerfect and Firestorm; and the Gandhi-King Season for Nonviolence.
