This project page was created to allow the Indigenous youth present at the Sixth Session of United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, May 2007, to remain in contact and created a unified network of Indigenous youth working towards a stronger youth voice at UNPFII.
Background:
At the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York City, May 2007, a group of Indigenous Youth from across the globe met daily to discuss issues, and draft statements and recommendations submitted to the permanent forum. During these meetings the youth came together to create a project page that would allow them to create a unified voice and keep discussions moving throughout the year.
Objectives:
To continue dialouge after the Sixth Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum of Indigenous Issues.
To create a stronger presence at the UNPFII.
Milestones:
The UN Indigenous Youth Caucus submitted two statements at the SSixth Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum of Indigenous Issues in May 2007, in addition to a set of recommendations that have spearheaded the permanent forum placing Indigenous Child and Youth issues as an agenda item for the Seventh Session of 2008.
