After a year of absence we are back. It has been a hard period for BS and its team a time of obstacles, difficulties that seriously threatened the project.
After the success of 2005 a series of circumstantial issues forced us to not be able to continuous the project. A series of political circumstances related to corruption occurred in the country stop the Agency who was supporting funding of youth lead projects for almost a year and a half. On this time the organization who initially hosted our project dissolved and the original team leaved not only the organization but also the project.
We remained out of money, resources and team. Under this circumstances we were not able to keep carrying the project properly fact that harmed the publication.
We created a new organization called Alter Eco and NGO focused on empowering people on the usage of media as tool for social transformation who owns the project now and a new team. Most of our original collaborators leaved cause of the lack of activity and other remained faithful to the project. Now we are back trying to create a new network of collaborators. All the team thought that since we always has have a good communication with our collaborators and partners we should be honest with you and share this information. This year is a year of rebuilding and reconsolidation and we got good signals.
So among the positive encouragement that we received is the support on the initiative of the International Youth Foundation that besides all recognized the value of Brainstorming initiative and awarded us in Washington in November with the Youth Action Network award that recognized each year 20 awarded from all over the world in different categories for their outstanding as social leaders and social entrepreneurs. The prize helped us to regain confidence and also brought to us some media attention among them specialised publication on Youth Initiatives and Third Sector such as VITAEUROPE (www.vitaeurope.org) the first European magazine covering third sector news. They liked the idea and proposed a partnership with BS that we signed couple of weeks ago for the whole year we will work on together in few stories and we will be able to exchange articles and to write joined stories. So that means that some of your stories will be maybe also published on Vita Magazine.
Another important novelty for this coming year it’s the launching of BS Africa a branch of BS specialized in African Issues. We are working on this project more that two years now an we were forced to stop it for lack of resources but now we managed to start up again and to get some of our collaborators from Africa back and soon they will be in charge of contacting all our collaborators from Africa with new instructions and ideas and recruiting new ones. We would like to have it active in February 2008.We will keep you informed on this issue.
We are also planning new features, categories issues for BS so your feedback, ideas, suggestions and contributions areas always welcome.
We want to thank all of you for the letters mails and support that we got from all of you during the last year and try to our best to become again active and strong. We count on you, and together with your help we will succeed.
