he word FRIENDS here is an acronym for Fast, Reliable. Instant, Efficient, Network for Disbursement of Services. Fast, instant? Surely that is a repetition? Considering the long queues that tended to form in front of counters at the the RTO, the Electricity Board or the University, the repetition is perhaps warranted. The aim of the project is to provide a single-window payment mechanism for government-to-citizen interaction in the state of Kerala, India. It started off as a pilot project in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram in June 2000. Subsequent statewide rollout started in June 2001. Citizens who walk into a FRIENDS center are issued tokens, and queue management is also computerized, minimizing waiting time.

The project is still work-in-progress in terms of the services being added and in geographical scope. There are plans to roll out FRIENDS centers through out the state

I went to Pakistan for participating in the international software fair SOFTEC2005. And I achieved the second prize. This achievement (software competition) is the first time in Bangladesh. My project was a ROBOT and I named this robot BANGLA MANOB II. This is an intelligent robot that can identify individual person; it can follow the eye instruction, recognize the individual objects and voice instructions. I can try to do a fundraiser at my school in Canada in order to support this cause. The money made can be used to make informative pamphlets that can be handed out throughout Calcutta. I was just wondering how I could be able to send the money and to whom to ensure it would be safely and properly dealt with so change will be established. Thanks alot, Suman Banik
