Vision
A society where the physically handicapped will have dignifying mobility and
have equal access to buildings and facilities.
Mission
To give mobility aids to people with walking disabilities and to advocate for
laws that ensure access to buildings and facilities for people with walking
disabilities.
Methodology
Access Advocacy - We will make
presentation to policy makers and opinion leaders on the need to make laws
which will compel building owners and builders to make buildings accessible
to people using wheelchairs, crutches and other mobility aids. The types of
access facilities to be provided may be adapted from the American with
Disabilities Act (ADA) and other similar documents. Examples of these access
requirements include;
Provision of low-angled inclines or wide, low steps at building entrances
in cases where the entrance has steps.
Provision of designated "Disabled" sections in car parks. The sections
should be sheltered and close to the buildings.
Sensitization of the public on the meaning and purposes
Accessibility/Disability Logo
Provision of designated "Disabled" sections in buses and other means of
public transport
Provision of low-angled inclines or wide, low steps in buildings where
there are staircases
Provision of none-slippery floors in buildings (bathrooms inclusive)
Mobility Aids Acquisition and Distribution - We will seek out and
contact hospital equipment manufacturers, hospitals, government agencies,
charities and individuals for the purpose of getting assistance in cash or
kind towards getting mobility aids. We will also look for organizations
which have the capacity to donate to us new, refurbished or fairly used
wheelchairs and crutches. These mobility aids will then be given completely
free-of-charge to indigent people in need of mobility aids.
