After the Nigerian 2007 elections.... then what?

Much has been said about the do or die attitudes, the lack of focus on real issues, and personality cults of the participants in this years electoral race. Various initiatives to engage electoral aspirants at all levels were pursued. In my humble opinion I never got the impression that 99% of these initiatives actually made any impression on aspirants that were battling being banned by INEC, thugs, and traitors.. Most aspirants seemed to be concerned with fighting on a personal rather than issue based level and securing enough money for elections. I heard all the usual I will give electricity, roads, and of course the much used JOBS FOR THE YOUTH. With the execption of Pat Utomi (this is not a campaig) I did not hear HOW this things would be achieved. Come May 29 2007 a new administration will be sworn in. When the dust clears we must get our thoughts through to them. If you had a chance to speak to your president(Governor, Senator etc) what would you reccommend he/she does to better this country and ensure employment? Dream big! Speak your mind.

INEC IS NODDING ITS HEAD LIKE THE RED-KNECK (AGAMA) LIZARD WE HAVE DONE WELL. BUT THE OVERWHELMING PRESENCE OF THE MIITARY, POLICE AND ALL FORCES INTIMIDATED MOST PEOPLE THUS RESULTING IN A LATE TURN OUT. WELL AS FOR THE MANIFESTO OF DOING THIS AND THAT WHEN I GET INTO OFFICE IT WAS WELL REPLICATED ACROSS THE BOARD OF ALL PARTIES BUT THE PROCEDURES OF ACHIEVING THEM IS WHAT NOBODY HAS BEEN TOLD.
THE NEW GOVT WILL BE SWORN IN BY MAY AND ALL I ASK OF THEM IS PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITY TO THE PEOPLE THAT VOTED THEM IN EVERY MONTH.
MY FIRST SUGGESTION IS THAT-
ELECTRIC POWER SHOULD BE STABLE
ROADS MUST BE REPAIRED BY CREDIBLE COMPANIES AND MONITORED
BANKS MUST GIVE LOANS WITH GOOD INTEREST RATES AND REALISTIC PAYBACK TIME
APPOINT YOUNGER PEOPLE INTO OFFICES AND FORCE THE OLDER BRIGADES TO PLAY ADVISORY ROLES
MERIT MUST BE THE WATCH-WORD IN APPOINTMENTS AND IF LAXITIES ARE IDENTIFIED PLEASE FIRE OUTRIGHT - DON'T MOVE PAWNS ACROSS THE CHESS BOARD
WELCOME TO A NEW NIGERIA
. AGREED A PROCESS HAS STARTED AND BALLOT BOXES ARE STILL A MAJOR TARGET OF THUGS, LEADING TO MURDERS AND ALL SORTS OF ILLIGALITIES.

I totally agree with the evaluation by Uma of the issues raised by Pamela. INEC is applauding herself at the successful kick off of the Nigerian elections.
But even the "success" of the elections yesterday shows the disconnect between the "haves" (who run the country and/or are friends of those who run the country) and the "have not" down on the ground.
The basic issues like power, water, creation of employment, health care etc have been treated in the same shoddy way by the aspirants..."I'd give you light, water etc", but the pertinent question of how is yet to be addressed as Pamela astutely pointed out.
I think that we have come of age as a nation to stand up and say "NO!" to the way politicians make promises with no intentions of fulfilling!

the major challenge we have in this country is that leaders give followers empty and unrealistic promise. It's better to say you will ensure that there is constant electricity in 5 cities, portable water in 100 rural communities and 12000 jobs for youths , than to speak into the air ang make promises that are not measurable.
Fort instance, we hear political aspirants say they want to create jobs for youths.the question is, how do they want to achieve this and what's their target? if all "anti-unemployment" campaigns by previous administrations where well structured and followed, i do not think graduate swill be roaming the streets.
THE BIG QUESTION IS THIS.EVEN WHEN THE POLICY AND STRATEGY IS GOOD, WHAT ABOUT THE "NIGERIAN FACTOR" THAT MAY COME TO PLAY DURING IMLEMENTATION"

Your so right.... never any targets....never time bound. If we want any thing done we must push for it. Push down that Nigerian factor. As a united front as well. I cant think of anyone irrespective of tribe, religion or whatever that doesnt want a chance to live well and provide for thier families. It never ceases to amaze me that persons who ruled Nigeria in thier 20s and 30s look at "youth" (this term has been stretched due to economic hardship in Naija sha!) as though they aer incapable of rational thought.

pam,ur are vry corect. a huge percentage of our leaders today ventured into politics in their 20s and 30s,but today the simply see young persons as no-do-wells i no blame them.
and pam, i must say that this attitude is the root cause of political aparthy and restivenbess among youths.its like the relationship between a father and his family, if thge father fails in his manly responsilbility and do not believe in the ability of his children, he should not expect respect and "patriotism" from his household.
a failed leasdership that has recycled itself for over 3 decades without positive resultsd should not expect committment from yourth, results they say removes insult. they should deliver b4 we become believers.
i wonder if our political class look back to independence and see if countries like malaysia that was on the same level with us are still there.
pam its painfull, but i believe in NAIJA. we can play our roles as social entreprenuers to bring about the change we look forward to.

Yes O! It starts from the home. Theres been a leadership breakdown and change of values at all levels. Nothing is truly bad everything is relative. Push Nigerians to the wall and we push the wall back. Our resilience and stubborness is both a blessing and a problem. I still believe we have no choice but to make things better. I for one would like to engage these guys asap. They can use the courts to address thier grieviances. But what do we do NOW?

"They can use the courts to address thier grieviances. But what do we do NOW? " PAM
until Nigerians believe in the system, they will not go to court to seek redress.we face the crises we face today because people feel that the court will rule in favour of those in power.this may not be true, but pam, you and i know what is obtainable here .
DO YOU KNOW THAT THE DPP GUBERNITORIAL ASPIRANT IN DELTA STATE , OGBORU, HAS BEEN DECLARED WANTED?
