With the help of the Guyana Youth Service Corps, YES Guyana has implemented several individual capacity building programs. The In School Entrepreneurship program is teaching an entrepreneurial curriculum in two private schools and two public schools; the Guyana Government has paid for 60% of the program costs.

For another program, YES Guyana is working with Courts Guyana to begin providing funding for students attending woodworking schools to develop, market, and sell prototype tools and machines.

The Youth Spark program is an international business plan competition that has been offered in Guyana, South Africa, Turkey, the Netherlands, and the Philippines. The winning business plan entrepreneur receives a non-collateral loan for 5,000 Euro for which YES Guyana partnered with the Dutch National Youth Council in order to secure support from a local bank. Due to the huge success of Youth Spark, local businesses and NGOs worked together to sponsor SPARK Guyana. This program partners 15 youth with an experienced business mentor who offers business training and guidance on writing business plans. One entrepreneurial project is selected from the group to receive low-interest rate funding; YES Guyana acts as a loan guarantor for the project. Now with the help of the Prince Charles Youth Business Trust, all trained youth will be able to receive loan guarantees. Due to the success of the program a similar business plan program is being planned for replication in the Caribbean Region.

Greetings YES Family,

I’m privileged to be the new coordinator of YESGY Networks. Since we returned from the conference held in Mexico, which, I must say has profoundly prepared us for the continuation of our plans of action for the YES campaign in Guyana, we have been taking baby steps towards reorganizing our committee, after the former coordinator resigned. However, we have not lost enthusiasm and have air marked projects to be achieved by the end of 2005. Nevertheless, in order to spearhead any initiative productively a strong team must be on board, therefore the first step is to recruit persons from diverse agencies (government, NGO, civil society, private sector) and to be a part of the team.
A summary of other plans is as follows:
 Creation of a strong monetary YESGY account, through fundraisers that will be hosted throughout the country.
 Conduct a countrywide survey that examines the extent to which the High School curriculum meets the demands of the twentieth century Guyanese youth and affords them the opportunity to be versatile.
 The establishment of a vocational program that trains high school dropouts and young single parents in trades that are highly demanded in Guyana.
