Organization of Youth Caucus day

This is a thread where we can talk about the organization of the youth caucus day. We began the discussions on Saturday on the conference call. We talked about the possibility of having workshops with the kids from St. Jo's (High School) ESL where 50% have refugee backgrounds. Eawar also mentioned having workshops with the youth that they work with - as in having the workshops open.
What do people think about this? What would be the structure of the day if we were to include workshops with these youths?
PLEASE RESPOND

Hi everyone,
For easy reference, here are the points that were discussed during the call:
- subcommittees put forward key issues to be discussed? – workshops?
- Plenary (all network) meets for a few hours – then breaks into smaller groups – then reconvenes in plenary to discuss key priorities – only make commitments can commit to then.
- Morning – Orientation: welcome and orientation of network, understanding the issues (CCR overview + youth network issues), workshops?
- Lunch – together, meet and bonding
- Afternoon – subcommittees meet
- Late afternoon – closing circle – subcommittees report, key priorities and realistic/achievable goals that people have committed to
*****
I think it would be great if we could involve students in the ESL programme (and others?) in open sessions in the afternoon - maybe sessions looking at issues that affect many people and a discussion of how this can be addressed.
Maybe, the sub-committee meetings could take place after this large group meeting in the afternoon (sub-committee meetings in late afternoon) to see what actions to take in the future.
Just an idea...
- Colleen

Hey guys!
I think we're in such an ideal position to do some really great sensitisation and awareness activities in schools. Although the participation of any refugee/immigrant youth in the region in our caucus discussions would be invaluable, I think we can go beyond that and do some work with non-newcomers in the schools. In fact, I think this should be part of our mandate: to try to arrange workshops with regular students during every consultation/meeting. I've got lots of ideas and resources for specific workshops we could do, but I'll save that for later.
